The Location
The location of your picnic can be based on many factors. Are you looking for a wide, open space to so you and your friends can throw a frisbee? Or would you prefer to find a quiet, intimate location for a romantic date? No matter your preference–taking the time to appreciate the outdoors is part of what makes a picnic so delightful. So, take a moment to research a few new spots online. You might be surprised to find a hidden gem that will make your experience feel more special.
The Food
Chilly weather is synonymous with comfort food. So, when planning your meal keep that in the forefront of your mind. Sandwiches are always a great go-to because they are no-fuss and simple to eat...and cleanup is a breeze. We recommend something like turkey sandwiches on some hearty multigrain bread. Or a warm panini layered with delicious grilled vegetables and cheese. Round out your meal with your favorite sides. Potato chips, salad, or even some veggie sticks are all easy and convenient options. Don’t forget a sweet treat for dessert!
*Pro tip: Take the prep work out of the equation and visit your local deli or sandwich shop for a quality sandwich you’ll be sure to enjoy.
The Drinks
Once you have your menu set, it’s time to focus on the drinks. Embrace the fall season and pack a thermos with a warm beverage such as apple cider or your favorite brewed tea. Another satisfying option is red wine. Archer Roose wines has a Malbec that pairs perfectly with your outing. Our Malbec has delicious notes of vanilla, blackberry and plum–it’s refreshing with a lingering finish. And the convenience of bringing along luxury wine in a can makes transport and clean up a breeze. Now, it might seem a bit obvious–but be sure to pack some waters as well. Regardless of what other drinks you bring along, it’s always good to plan ahead and stay hydrated.
The Setup
Setting up a picnic is straightforward. All you need is a picnic blanket and a sturdy bag to safely carry all the items you will need. Don’t fret if you do not own a designated picnic blanket–use what you have at home. If there’s an old blanket around your house, use that instead! Just be sure you don’t mind if it gets ruined from any spills that might occur.
In the event someone feels chilly, it wouldn’t hurt to pack and extra blanket or a sweater. After all, it is fall. So, there is the likelihood that the temperature could dip as the day goes on. It’s always good to be prepared!
On the topic of being prepared, think about bringing a deck of playing cards, a frisbee, or a football. There’s almost always a chance that everyone is having such a good time that they won’t want the fun to end. This ensures that there’s something of interest to keep everyone occupied.
*Pro tip: Bring a portable speaker along to play some music. It helps set the mood for a joyful, relaxing experience while you take in the beautiful scene.
